Fly the Friendly Skies with Charleston, WV

West Virginia usually gets the butt end of the stick in national media coverage. But Charleston receives some glossy, positive coverage in a recent issue of US Airways Magazine (which, if you're flying the friendly skies, you'll find in your seatback, we hear). The multi-page spread includes some nice photos, the usual deserved props to Mountain Stage and to downtown restaurants like Soho's, Blossom Deli, Bridge Road Bistro and Laury's. There's a dramatic double-truck photo of the New River as part of coverage of outdoor things to do, a Greenbrier homage, and a piece on Jay Rockefeller with the unduly hip title of "The Rock."

It's not all smooches and ad-ready copy. A short bit on 'Mining Safety' speaks for mining families who wonder why wireless tracking devices have not been used underground. "There are issues with putting equipment underground that could cause a spark and explosion," says Celeste Monforton, a public health researcher at George Washington University who's helping to investigate the Sago mining disaster. "But if you ask manufacturers, they say they know how to do it."

The whole package makes
Charleston and WV seem like a semi-happening place. Read for yourself by clicking here.
