Dramatic Fool Ticket Drawing
Answer the following question correctly and be entered into a drawing for two tickets to the June 22 Gazz Gathering & FestivALL Sampler, featuring Drew the Dramatic Fool. E-mail and fax entries only to gazz@wvgazette.com or (fax) 348-1233 by 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 7.
Question: Buster Keaton
(at right) was a popular American silent film comic actor known for physical comedy. What was his nickname that reflected part of his schtick?
Last week's winner: Doug Minnerly of Charleston. Correct answer: the name of the movie in which Charlie Chaplin was caught in giant grinding gears was "Modern Times."
Where to buy tickets: Buy tickets to the June 22 Gazz Gathering & FestivALL Sampler at Taylor Books, the Clay Center, at the door or by calling 348-3017.
Drew the Dramatic Fool reinvents an ancient, if bumbling, art practiced by royal jesters, vaudeville eccentrics, silent film comedians, theatrical clowns and imperfect humans everywhere. He'll be featured at the Gazz Gathering & FestivALL Sampler, from 6 to 8 p.m. June 22, on the historic Scottish Rite Temple stage at 406 Capitol St.
The Dramatic Fool will perform "Help! Help! I Know This Title is Long, But Somebody's Trying to Kill Me!" in which Drew is the only member of a vaudevillian stage show left alive. In "show-must-go-on" fashion, he tries to avoid the same fate by taking on all the roles of his dearly departed counterparts. He has performed in theaters and festivals across the U.S., including The Arden Theatre at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, The Palace of Variety in Times Square and The NY International Festival Of Clown-Theatre.
The evening begins with a cash bar in the Scottish Rite ballroom, followed by a short comedy act by Dave Stacy. A Charleston insurance salesman by day, Stacy was recently filmed as part of the Travel Channel show "This Job's a Trip," in which an average person is thrust into the trials of a completely different job. Stacy was given a five-minute comedy set in February on a sold-out Saturday night at the famed Los Angeles comedy club The Improv. The program will screen later that night on the cable channel.
