Downtown Huntington's dashing Pullman Square development features an upscale
Funny Bones Comedy Club (whose lobby, featuring hundreds of whoopee cushions, hand-buzzers, rubber chickens, fake eyeballs and more behind plastic, is one of the best modern art displays in West Virginia).
In addition to nationally touring comics, the club features an open mic night for local comics with cojones -- and a desire to make a name or make a fool of themselves. At first glance, you blanch at the cost -- $25 to perform at an open mic?! But here's the sweet kicker:
"Anyone who knows an open mic comic gets in free." So, aspiring Jerry Seinfelds and Chris Rocks, gather a posse of friends and fans, chip in a couple bucks each and support your jokiest peep. Below is the club's upcoming schedule:
Mark Curry, "Hangin with Mr. Cooper" star (
photo above).
January 26th-29th; $16-$18.
Christine Stedman, Feb, 3 & 4; $12.
Heywood Banks; February 9-12; $16-$18.
Open Mic Night Feb. 16 (Open Mic'ers need to register for $25). Anyone who knows an open mic comic gets in free.
Kevin Pollak, "Grumpy Old Men" actor ; Feb. 17-19, $20.
Harland Williams, "Down Periscope," "There's Something about Mary";
March 9-12; $18-$20.
Aries Spears, "Mad T.V," "Jerry Maguire";
March 16-19; $16-$18.
Call the club at 781.1000. They serve decent dinners to go with the jokes.
