SkyscraperScape: Where Are We?

Please don't take this personally, denizens of the Huntington Bank building. But the structure's exterior does not do much for me. Which is a pity, since it is one of but a handful of downtown structures that impose themselves on the city's skyline signature. It is not that there is anything glaringly offensive about the building (and there must be some fantastique views from upper offices). But the edifices's boxy, zebra-colored design has not much brio. Wait-- there is something offensive about it. Anyone passing Charleston on the interstate or river sees the big declarative word 'HUNTINGTON' in our skyscape. It's certainly not the bank's fault. But this is a serious case of mistaken identity, no?

I dislike that just as much as the Chase Bank logo which makes me think of Chase Manhattan and invariably....New York...which we definitely are not.

Yes, Curious, I imagine some mapless, hapless soul, pulling off Interstate 64, inquiring how to get to Pullman Square. 'Pullman... where?' asks a befuddled shopkeeper. 'Ooohhh, you need to go another hour down the road.' Where is Frank Gehry or I.M. Pei when you need them, to design a structure so alluring it becomes the city's signature?
