Trompe-l'oeil is French for "trick the eye" (from tromper: to deceive) and refers to paintings that create optical illusions of depth and substance that are not there. The best local example (maybe the only one?) of this famous art-form is Bart Davies' mural of Victorian row houses, found on the wall of this building at One Bridge Place along the approach to the Southside Bridge. This is really an accomplished piece of massive trompe-l'oeil painting, which incorporates (enlarge the photo to spot them) real windows among the false.
